Van Oord is a world leader in Dredging for major projects which include Grand Cruise Pier, Turks and Caicos Island (Caribbean) conducted in December 2004 through to 2005. Palm Jumeriah, a residential, resort community literally grown from the sea floor and constructed in Dubai (2001 - 2003). The jumeriah is one of a few man-made land features on earth that is visible from outer space.

Van Oord's Largest project to date is "The World" - shaping an offshore community comprising of hotels, apartments and private homes. Located four (4) Km off the coast of Dubai, the project entails high levels of logistics co-ordination and expertise which Van Oord is poised to deliver. "The World" consists of an archipelago of 300 islands that will resemble a map of the world continents. when implemented in 2007 some 32,000,000 tons of rock would have been transported from the quarries of Ras al Kharmah to build the breakwater for these islands 25 km in lenght. "The World" is one of the largest man-made offshore marine environments.
